Activity Description
Celebrate the spirit of the Olympic Games with this fantasy-style prediction challenge. Girls choose which country they think will reach the podium for each Olympic sport, then earn points based on real medal results as the Games unfold. It’s a mix of luck, knowledge, and strategy and a brilliant way to follow the Games together as a unit.
How to Play
1. Distribute worksheets - Girls work individually, in pairs, or in patrols. For each sport listed, they predict which country they think will win a medal.
2. Make your predictions - For each sport, girls choose one country they believe will reach the podium. (for example, France - swimming) There are no right or wrong answers, the focus is on discussion, reasoning and having fun.
3. Scoring (optional) - If you choose to score predictions, points are awarded as follows:🥇 Gold = 3 points, 🥈 Silver = 2 points 🥉 Bronze = 1 point. Scores can be updated daily during the Games, or simply added up at the end. An editable spreadsheet is provided to automatically calculate totals and display a leaderboard.
4. Hummingbird HQ Global Scoreboard - Short on time? Let Hummingbird HQ handle the scoring. Leaders can submit predictions using a simple Google Form, HQ will calculate scores, update the global leaderboard daily, and track progress throughout the Games. Your unit could become the Champion of Champions, not just within your meeting place, but across the world.
5. Winning - The player, patrol or unit with the highest total score wins, or skip winners altogether and celebrate great predictions, teamwork and enthusiasm for the Games.
